Kambo
Kambo is a Sacred Amazonian medicine known as "The Great Revealer," as it allows you to work through past traumas and deep issues. as well as connecting you to your Soul. The powerful, medicinally potent secretion of the green giant monkey tree frog, Phyllomedusa Bicolor, is used as a detox for body, mind, and Spiritual alignment. This frog lives in the upper areas of the Amazon Rainforest. It has no natural predators – even snakes spit it back out if they swallow them.
A Kaxinawá legend tells that the Indians of the tribe were very ill and their medicine man (Pajé in Brazil) had done everything that was possible to help them. All medicinal herbs known were used, but none helped. Under the effect of sacred plant medicines, he entered the forest and whilst there received a visit from the grandmother. She brought in her hands a frog, from which she took a white secretion, and taught the Pajé how to apply it. Returning to the tribe and following the guidelines that he had received the Pajé was able to cure his brothers & sisters. From then on, he was known as Pajé Kampu. The Indians continue to use its secretion to stay active and healthy. Its usage spread and it is still used widely amongst indigenous people in the Amazon to this day although the rituals vary from tribe to tribe.
Our Kambo frog friends are never harmed, killed, or mistreated in any way.
The harvesting is gentle, leaving each frog with plenty of secretion to defend itself. The frogs are never poked or prodded to take extra secretions. This form of Kambo harvesting is sustainable. A straw string is wrapped around each frog’s leg during milking, leaving a tiny white line on the leg for 2-3 months. That frog will not be used again until the line fades. The frogs are treated with love, reverence and respect.
The tribe we source our Kambo from believes that harming the frog would anger the animal spirits they live so closely with. For this reason, their frogs are treated with utmost care throughout the entire harvesting process.
The Kambo Experience
Kambo should always be taken with a properly trained person administering and supervising the treatments at all times! Kambo is intense but fast. The unpleasant effects are strong and immediate, but over within 15 - 30 minutes.
The dried ethically harvested Kambo is mixed with a small amount of water and divided into small dots. Then small points called gates are placed into the surface of the skin. The points are approximately 1/8” across but can be smaller or slightly larger depending on the treatment. The top thin layer of skin is blistered with a hot stick or incense stick and the skin is peeled off to expose the epidermis underneath – this is the same as when you have a blister and the skin rubs off. There is no blood.
The number and position of the points varies from person to person depending on individual needs. The small dots of Kambo are applied to the points. The Kambo enters directly into the Lymphatic System so the effect is very fast. Most people experience a warm to hot flush on the upper body and face along with increased heart rate. At this point, different people will react in different ways.
The Kambo will be racing around your body, scanning it for problems and then going directly to work on those areas. You may experience a throbbing or burning sensation in those areas for a short while. Kambo is not psychoactive so does not produce hallucinations but can produce a short, altered state of reality in some people and many people receive insights and messages about living a healthier life.
Then you will purge all the toxins out. This purging process works on a physical and emotional level. You may feel tired at this point and need to rest. After a short rest, where your body integrates the experience through stillness– usually an hour or so you will feel much better and you can drink and eat normally. After a good night’s sleep, you will start to feel the real benefits.
During the ceremony, you may experience some or all of the below - remember, this only lasts for 15-20 minutes.

After the dots of Kambo are removed, the points are dressed with the Peruvian tree sap known as Dragonsblood. This helps them to heal faster and ensures they stay free from infection until they scab naturally within a day or so. The burn marks will heal and fade with time but depending on your skin color and type you may always have small visible scars. Most people see their Kambo scars as a badge of honor.
Hapé (pronounced ‘hapay’) and sage may be used during your treatment to aid the purging process and to clear blockages. Hapé is a medicinal snuff made from a mixture of tree ash, tobacco, herbs, spices, bark, roots and flowers. There are many different varieties available, each with unique effects on the body, emotions and spirit. We will use one called Parica, which is particularly helpful in inducing purge. Hapé is widely used among many different tribes throughout Brazil and Peru. It is blown into both nostrils through a pipe called a Tepi, and is said to connect us to the spirits of the forest and the power of the god of creation. To only receive Rapé in one nostril would leave a person imbalanced and out of harmony with nature.
Sananga is a traditional eye medicine made from the shredded roots of a shrub called Tabernaemontana Undulata. The eye drops have been used for thousands of years by the tribes of the upper Amazon to heal on physical, spiritual and energetic levels. It is said to clear Panema (negative energy), depression and psychosomatic ailments. Physically, it cleans and refreshes the eyes and has been traditionally used to treat glaucoma, cataracts, astigmatism, conjunctivitis, dry/red eyes, eye infections, sinusitis and chronic headaches. It immediately improves visual perception and would be helpful to hunters spotting animals in the dense, dark jungle. On an energetic level, it is used to open the third eye, cleanse the aura and balance the chakras. Sananga may be offered after your Kambo treatment to support the clearing process.
Some clients may feel a temporary worsening of symptoms following Kambo treatment. It is normal to feel emotional and physical issues quite strongly as they surface for clearing. For this reason, we advise clients to have support systems (friends, family and therapists) around them to help with what arises. The end goal is to let these blockages move out, thus leaving you with more energy, vitality and clarity.
Your Kambo treatment is a completely individual process, so everyone’s results will be completely different. Many people find relief from their symptoms in the near and long term, finally moving past conditions, situations, and ailments that have plagued them for years.
Health Requirements & Contraindications
Those on the following list may NOT safely take Kambo:
• Have serious heart problems including: having had heart surgery or have any other serious heart issues.
• Have had an organ transplant that you are taking immune system suppressing medication for.
• Are on medication on for low blood pressure.
• Have suffered a stroke.
• Are pregnant or may be so.
• Are currently breast-feeding.
• Have had a brain hemorrhage.
• Have had aneurisms or blood-clots.
• Suffer from a serious mental health condition.
• Lack the mental capacity to make the decision to take Kambo.
• Have serious mental health problems excluding depression, PTSD and anxiety.
• Are undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy or for 4 weeks after treatment would take place.
• Take immune-suppressants for organ transplant.
• Have Addison’s disease.
• Have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
• Have current and severe Epilepsy.
• Are recovering from a major surgical procedure.
• Lasik Surgery or recent eye surgeries
• Have been water fasting, or doing enemas, colonics or colon cleanses within the last 7 days
• Have a history of throat or neck injuries such as having a ruptured esophagus
If any of the above apply to you then you will not be able to work Kambo for your own safety. It is essential to disclose any relevant information to me, withholding mental and physical health conditions could jeopardize your safety and put your life at risk. If you have any other serious health issues or any condition that you are currently taking medication for then it is essential that you let me know so that we can discuss.
Other Relevant Medical Information
If you are menstruating at the time of treatment, Kambo may cause the flow to increase for 24-36 hours because it contains powerful Vasodilators. If you are Asthmatic ensure that you have your inhaler with you. If you carry an EpiPen for health reasons please bring with you and make me aware of this. Asking you to carry these items to ceremony is merely my own personal request to be super rigid on the side of safety.
If you are a diabetic, it’s important to discuss your treatment in advance. You must inform me if you have previously or are currently suffering from a mental health condition, regardless of whether or not you are taking medication. The only exception to this is mild depression and/or anxiety. In most cases it is usually completely safe for you to continue taking your normal medication but please discuss this beforehand.
Before the treatment it is ESSENTIAL you fast for at least 10 hours!
Fast from the time you wake up until your session (morning). Fasting includes coffee and black tea. Water and herbal teas are fine at least two and a half plus hours before the ceremony. We ask that you refrain from drinking alcohol or taking recreational drugs in the 24 hours before and after your treatment. It is ideal to eat a healthy and nutritious meal that is not too heavy as your last meal before the treatment. Ideal example; brown rice and veggies, big fruit salad etc.
Kambo is not a medicine, or a cure, but it can be a great treatment in conjunction with current regimens. It is not a replacement for medical advice, treatments, prescriptions or doctor’s orders. Kambo treatment is not guaranteed to alleviate any illness or ailment. However, many people have found improvements in their symptoms and quality of life through the use of Kambo.
